Double Glazing – How Is Double Glazing Made
The double-glazing system combines two sheets of glass, linked by an aluminum profile, with an inner layer of dry air, which may or may not contain argon gas. Inside the aluminum profile, there is a hydro-drying agent to guarantee the absence of moisture. An aluminum spacer creates the air chamber. There are 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, or 24mm air cameras. What prevents moisture and condensation inside the chamber is silica. If there is an air exchange, the glass will fog up over time, and it will not be possible to clean the inside.
To obtain double glazing, different types of glass can be combined. Common and tempered glass, common and laminated, or two laminated glasses may be associated, or even value-added glass, such as solar control or colored glass. To define this composition, first, it is verified the sound intensity of the environment and the protection desired by the customer in terms of acoustic and thermal insulation. This is not a ready-made glass; the ideal product results from calculating the local noise to define the types of glass and thicknesses, both for the glass and the air chamber.
Thickness Does Not Define Efficiency
It’s all a matter of the project’s need, but the idea is to use different thicknesses to ensure better sound blocking, as a thickness of glass will block each sound wave. The performance is more related to the frequency range in which the sound of the place is and the combinations made than to the thickness of the double glazing. Sometimes you put in two thick glasses, but they won’t be effective if they vibrate at the same frequency; the sound will pass. Behavior changes with each frequency. You have to understand the type of noise.
The work as a whole is also decisive. The noise will travel through the air and, upon encountering the glass barrier, it will lose energy, but it may find cracks when passing through the window. That is, if the profiles, as well as the installation, are not appropriately applied, the result will not be effective even with the best glass. It’s no use randomly placing any profile. There are specific frames where aluminum is filled with mineral wool. There are models with PVC and wood with good performance, but the sealing is the most important, as the sound propagates through cracks. The villain in the story can be even the wall or ceiling, which must be at least 15cm, as only about 70% comes from the window of a building. Use double glazers for the work like double glazers in Herne Bay.
